Exploring Human Nature Through Found, Natural, and Nostalgic Materials
Welcome to my online portal—an open window into my art practice. I’m Leslie Love, a Vancouver Island artist, born and raised on a land called Song Farm. My art is deeply influenced by my connection to nature, family, and the materials I gather from the land. I work with foraged botanicals, upcycled fabrics, salvaged metal, wood and paint—anything that provides a deeper connection to the concept of the work. I am fascinated by old family photos and materials that evoke nostalgia, memories, and emotions.
As a white settler, I humbly acknowledge I live and create on the traditional territories of the K’ómoks, Coast Salish, Qualicum, Snaw’naw’as, and Snuneymuxw First Peoples. It is a privilege to receive inspiration and opportunity to work on these lands.
The profound harms caused by colonialism and capitalism are deeply felt and I understand the importance to go beyond acknowledging by continuing to work on strategies to dismantle racism.
Listening to and learning from Indigenous voices, histories, and advocating sovereignty is a starting point, a catalyst which leads to action.
For those interested in learning and doing more, I encourage you to begin by visiting the Indian Residential School Survivors Society and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action.
I fully support the LGBTQIA+ community and prioritize creating a space where everyone feels safe, respected, and valued. Your comfort, belonging, and identity are important to me, and I am committed to fostering an environment that celebrates and uplifts the diverse experiences of all human beings.
Keep shining bright; your authentic self lights the way to freedom for everyone. Thank you so much for being you!
The Trevor Project has some fantastic info and resources and you can help at-risk LGBTQI+ individuals get to safety around the world at the Rainbow Railroad website.
